It's been a while since I last posted about
Fair Trade, but my passion for it is still alive and well. In fact, last school year, with our third grade students, my team taught a
Fair Trade chocolate curriculum unit from
Global Exchange. The kids learned a lot and really got into it. One parent even gave me Fair Trade treats at Halloween -- it was great!
Then, later in the year, we created a Fair Trade presentation for the rest of the school. There were four committees: artwork, speeches, research and performance. The kids who participated in the artwork committee created a mural. Some kids gave a speech with PowerPoint slides, while others created a newsletter. My committee performed skits (that they wrote) and sang some inspirational songs, including one sung to the tune of "Rolling in the Deep" but with Fair Trade lyrics penned by a student!
"They are the children... There's no time to play. Help the children, and we will save the day. Fair Trade is needed. Come and join the club..."
So. Cute.
All this to say, I am always on the lookout for ways to support Fair Trade, and here are a few of my favorite treats:
Made with coconut milk and sweetened with agave nectar. Delicious!
LÄRABAR® offers a variety of flavors, but the
bars made with chocolate carry the Fair Trade label.
